'Safe House' director Daniel Espinosa is circling the film

20th Century Fox has scooped up the screenplay for the Boston Marathon drama Boston Strong, THR has confirmed.

Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa is circling the film, which chronicles the aftermath of the 2013 attack that left three dead and scores wounded.

The project, which was shopped to studios over the past few weeks, is based on Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge’s book of the same name, which was adapted on spec by The Fighter writers Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy.

Boston native Casey Affleck, who graduated from the same high school as the two men alleged to have carried out the bombings, had flirted with the project as a starring and producing vehicle, but sources say he is no longer involved.

Dorothy Aufiero is producing with Hutch Parker.

After helming the breakout hit Safe House, Espinosa became a hot commodity for action-heavy dramas. He directed the upcoming Child 44 for Summit Entertainment.

Espinosa is repped by UTA and Magnolia.
