Fox, Sandler team for Toma 1

MEXICO CITY -- Fox International Channels on Wednesday announced the formation of Spanish-language production company Fox Toma 1 with Argentine content producer Ernesto Sandler.

Sandler, founder of Argentine producer Utilisima, was named president and CEO of the Buenos Aires-based shingle.

Later this year, Fox Toma 1 will begin producing local content for Fox, FX, Speed and Fox Life in Latin America. Under the agreement, women's pay TV network Utilisima has joined the group of Fox International Channels distributed throughout Spanish-language territories.

A Fox statement said that Fox Toma 1 will have the capacity to produce up to 2,000 hours of programming a year, however, a Fox Latin American Channels spokeswoman declined comment on specific projects.

Hernan Lopez, president of Fox Latin American Channels, said the deal significantly increases Fox's Spanish-language production capacity.

"After (Fox's) 13 years in Latin America, the time has come to complement (programs created in English) with programs created in Spanish," Lopez said. "And the creation of Fox Toma 1 is an important first step."

Fox declined to disclose financial details.
