targets growing audience

Exec calls site launch 'an unprecedented opportunity'

News Corp.'s Fox News is looking to target the growing U.S. Hispanic audience with the launch of the bilingual, the News Corp.-owned New York Post reported Wednesday.

Launched Tuesday, weeks before the midterm elections, the site covers news, entertainment and lifestyle with a focus on Latino culture and interest.

"The launch of Fox News Latino creates an unprecedented opportunity to expand our reach by engaging the fastest growing minority audience," the Post quoted Fox News executive Michael Clemente as saying.

First-day stories included coverage of the rescue of the trapped Chilean miners and entertainment features, including one about Jessica Alba's GQ shoot.

This year's census is expected to show a further increase in the U.S. Hispanic population, which has in recent years attracted increased attention from advertisers and media executives.
