Star Movies Select will go on air Thursday with deals with 21st Century Fox, Disney and NBCUniversal to premiere titles such as 'Birdman,' 'Boyhood' and 'The Grand Budapest Hotel.'

Fox's Star India has announced the launch of its new English movie channel Star Movies Select HD, which goes live on Thursday. According to the company, the channel has exclusive first-output deals with 21st Century Fox, NBC Universal and Disney, which will see Indian TV premieres of titles such as Gone Girl, The Fault in our Stars, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Boyhood, The Theory of Everything and Birdman, among others.

As part of its programming, the high-definition channel is set to offer premieres of over 30 titles a year, including Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning films. Also included in the lineup will be films that never found a theatrical release in India.

“We have curated content from the biggest Hollywood studios, and created a programming lineup that will need no introduction to our select audience,” said Star India business head, English cluster, Kevin Vaz.

Star Movies Select expands the network's English entertainment bouquet, which includes Star Movies, Star Movies Action, Star World and Star World Premiere along with Fox International Channels such as Fox Crime.

The channel will compete against other Hollywood movie channels including HBO and Indian broadcaster Times Network's Movies Now. Last week, Viacom18 announced the launch of its Hollywood content channel Color Infinity, which will mostly air shows alongside biopics and documentaries and is expected to go on air by the end of July.
