France 24 site blooming worldwide

PARIS -- Gallic news channel France 24 is seeing an increase in the number of international users of its news Web site, claiming 3.8 million unique visitors in December, according to a survey conducted by NetRatings Nielsen/Mediametrie. is the most popular international news Web site in France, Germany, Italy and Spain and remains the third most-visited site in the U.K. and the U.S., after BBC News and CNN.

Some 80% of visitors to come from outside Gaul. More than 1.4 million unique visitors checked out from the States, an increase of 44% from just one month before.

The news site also performed well in Italy, with 540,000 unique visitors, a 57% jump from the previous month. France saw an increase of 10% to 748,000 unique visitors for the month. Traffic to the site is 17 times greater than that on the Al Jazeera site and 45 times greater than that on the Euronews site, according to Nielsen/Mediametrie figures.

"These results are all the more remarkable given the general downturn in traffic on most international news Web sites," France 24 said in a statement.
