BUSAN, South Korea -- The French government made Jeon Do-yeon a Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters at a South Korean film festival, honoring the Cannes-winning actress in her home country.

French trade minister Anne-Marie Idrac pinned the silver medal for contributions to the arts on Jeon at an evening reception for French filmmakers on the sidelines of the Pusan International Film Festival late Saturday.

Idrac said Jeon is "one of the most talented actresses in South Korea today and has acted in the most groundbreaking movies."

Jeon won the best actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 for playing a widow coping with the death of her husband and son in "Secret Sunshine." Her other credits include "The Scandal," ''My Mother the Mermaid" and "You Are My Sunshine."
