Francesco Munzi to Direct Crime Thriller for Studio 8 (Exclusive)
Zach Baylin will write the script for the NYC-set film, which is centered in the underworld of cargo theft.
Studio 8 and Battle Mountain Films have teamed for a crime thriller that will be directed by Italian filmmaker Francesco Munzi.
Zach Baylin is writing the script based on an original idea Baylin and Munzi came up with together. The story is set in New York City's violent but lucrative underworld of cargo theft. It centers on a young man who is mentored by a brilliant thief and must choose between ambition and family as he rises to prominence.
John Wells and Claire Rudnick Polstein of Battle Mountain will produce the project, the company's first collaboration with Studio 8. Zach Studin will executive produce.
Jon Silk, who brought the project to Studio 8, will be overseeing it on behalf of the company along with Bob Brassel.
Munzi is best known for the 2014 film Black Souls, which competed for the Golden Lion at the 71st Venice International Film Festival and won Italy’s David Di Donatello Award in 2015 for best film, best director and best screenplay. He is repped by WME, Untitled and attorney Peter Nichols.
Baylin’s credits include the TNT project The Player, which has Common attached to star and is being produced by Legendary TV, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Automatik. He is repped by CAA, Grandview and attorney Greg Slewett.
Upcoming films from Jeff Robinov's Studio 8, funded in partnership with China's Fosun Group, include Solutrean, which is currently in production, and Ang Lee's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk in partnership with Sony’s TriStar.
