Francisco Costa Designs Exclusive Lower-Priced Calvin Klein Line for Macy's

Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence and Rooney Mara love Calvin Klein's clean minimal designs, available for the first time at the department store on May 15.

Seems like every upscale designer who regularly dresses celebrities is either doing -- or thinking about doing -- a limited edition exclusive collection for lower-priced retail outlets such as H&M.

Now comes word that Francisco Costa, women's creative director of Calvin Klein Collection, will collaborate with Macy's in a spring promotion to benefit the Amazon rainforest.

The designer created an exclusive lower-priced capsule line of colorful crepe and jersey dresses, priced from $135 to $180, under the Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein label.

Quite a few of Hollywood's fashion It Girls have been wearing Francisco's designs on the red carpet. Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence wore a sexy forest green dress to her film's NY premiere. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara sat in the front row of his New York fashion show in a knee length LBD.

Scarlett Johansson chose a sleek Calvin Klein black gown to pick up her Best International Actress Golden Camera Award at the recent Berlin Film Festival. Johansson begins shooting Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho in Los Angeles soon, in which she plays Janet Leigh's former role of Vivian Crane. And yes, there will be a shower scene.

Francisco, who grew up in Guarani, Brazil, describes the collection and its inspiration: “This fresh, youthful line of dresses reflects both my roots and the modern, yet timeless spirit of Calvin Klein."

Macy's exec VP of marketing Martine Reardon called Costa's participation "a huge coup." "We obviously have a huge distribution of Calvin Klein products but we do not carry the [designer] collection that Francisco creates. Unfortunately, those price points are not within Macy’s price points."

Fortunately for those of us who like Macy's price points, we can get a taste of the tropics, Klein-style, starting on May 15 when the collection is in 80 Macy's stores and online. The promo’s name is "A Magical Journey to Brazil." 

Macy's will also be working with other designers from the U.S. and South America on special collections, but no word on who yet. Any guesses?
