Freeman clicks for Discovery digital gig

NEW YORK -- Discovery Communications on Wednesday named former AOL executive Joshua Freeman executive vp digital media.

Freeman will oversee the growth of Discovery across all digital global platforms. He will report to Bruce Campbell, president of digital media and business development.

Freeman most recently was senior vp operations and planning for AOL's products division. He oversaw distribution partnerships and managed the Time Warner company's partnerships for AOL Video, where he was involved with dealmaking with CBS Corp., NBC Universal, News Corp., Viacom, Warner Bros., Sony and others.

He previously was vp strategy and business development for AOL Video, where he helped launch the division. Freeman began his career at AOL in 1999.

Wednesday's appointment is one in a string of restructurings of Discovery's top level of executives. Last month, John Honeycutt was named executive vp and chief media technology officer, Myrna Renaud was named senior vp international media operations and former Viacom exec Clara Kim was named executive vp of the company.

Also on Wednesday, Sahar Elhabashi was named COO of Discovery Networks International.
