It's all about products that play with light, says makeup artist Kirin Bhatty. And sunscreen.

"A daytime awards show is much different," says makeup artist Kirin Bhatty, who created Freida Pinto's covetable makeup look for the Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica on Saturday. "You want to look fresh because you're lit by the daylight, and you want to take advantage of that." So forget heavy lashes and thick eyeliner, says Bhatty. Daytime glamor is all about luminous skin and using products that play with light.

To that effect, Bhatty opted for L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream ($11) to prep Pinto's skin (layered with sunscreen, natch), and L'Oreal True Match Lumi Powder Glow Illuminator ($13) in Golden swiped across the high points of Pinto's face and cheeks. "She's wearing a ponytail, so we really wanted to highlight her bone structure," explained Bhatty.

To counterbalance the blue hues in Pinto's Bibhu Mohapatra dress, the artist used a soft pink tones on Pinto's lips and cheeks, including L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Matte Lipcolour Stick ($10) in She's So Matte, pressed lightly into Pinto's lips using fingertips.

A few coats of L'Oreal Voluminous Volume Building Mascara ($8) amplified Pinto's natural look, paired with a soft, taupe-y cream metallic eye shadow to give eyes "a bit of deweyness." The result? A picture of daytime perfection.
