FremantleMedia International Takes German Series 'Deutschland 83'

Fremantle will handle worldwide sales on the Cold War period drama from commercial network RTL.

FremantleMedia International has picked up worldwide sales rights on Deutschland 83, a new Cold War drama series commissioned by German commercial network RTL. 

The series, produced by Berlin-based UFA Fiction, is set in 1983 when the Cold War started to heat up in a divided Germany after NATO laid out plans to station Pershing II missiles in West Germany.

Deutschland 83 follows Martin Rauch (Jonas Nay), 24 year-old East German recruited by the Stasi to infiltrate the West German army and uncover NATO secrets. The 8-part drama was created by Anna and Joerg Winger, with Edward Berger and Samira Radsi directing. UFA Fiction's Joerg Winger is executive producing for UFA Fiction together with Nico Hofmann.

Fremantlemedia International will present Deutschland 83 to buyers at next month's European Film Market in Berlin.
