French Internet, mobile firms band


PARIS -- France's top Internet and mobile companies have joined forces to create the Federation Francaise des Telecommunications et des Communications Electroniques.

SFR president and CEO Frank Esser will head the new org, which comprises Internet access providers association the AFA, mobile operator group the AFOM, telecommunications operators organization AFORST and operators Bouygues Telecom, COLT, France Telecom, Iliad, Neuf Cegetel, Numericable and SFR.

The group's aim is to organize structured dialogues to increase quality of service and monitor the evolution of the industry.

"The creation of the French Telecoms Federation represents a strong and clear sign of the will of the different players in the telecommunications and electronic communications industry to privilege consultations with the public and civil society, as part of a constructive dialogue," Esser said in a statement.
