French networks chosen for mobile platform

Three public TV channels join 13 private nets

PARIS -- Gallic networks France 2, France 3 and Arte have been chosen to fill the three slots delegated to public TV channels on France's mobile television platform the TMP, France's Cultural Minister Christine Albanel said Friday.

French broadcasting regulator the CSA announced the 13 private networks chosen for the rapidly developing platform on Tuesday. The launch of mobile TV in Gaul is planned for early 2009.

The 16 channels chosen for the platform are expected to cover 30% of the territory three years after the launch and 60% after six years. The CSA will open another application process for a second group of TMP channels starting in 2009.
