French Rendez-Vous set for Mumbai

Event is first of two organized by French embassy

NEW DELHI -- The second Rendez-Vous with French Cinema in India will be held December 2-6 in Mumbai featuring eight French films, including a restored version of Jean-Luc Godard’s classic “Pierrot le Fou."

Organized by the Embassy of France and Unifrance and held at Fun Cinemas, the event will also be attended by 11 French film figures such as directors Jean-Paul Salomé (“Les Femmes de l’ombre” - “Female Agents”), David Morley (“Mutants”) and Cédric Kahn (“Les Regrets” - “Regrets”).

Also part of the delegation are upcoming actresses Déborah François, Hélène de Fougerolles, Fanny Valette and actor Tahar Rahim who won accolades for France's Oscar entry this year “Un Prophète” (A Prophet). Some members of the delegation will hold sessions as part of affiliate event “On Set with French Cinema” hosted by the Whistling Woods film and media school.
The event “offers a large panorama of contemporary French cinema. Its ambition is to seduce, move, provoke, surprise and thrill moviegoers that are increasingly open to foreign films," Unifrance said in a statement.

The Rendez-Vous is one of two film events being organized under the umbrella of the “Bonjour India” cultural festival organized by the Embassy of France and CulturesFrance to be held across India from December to February. The second film festival – for which dates will be shortly announced - will commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Nouvelle Vogue (the New Wave of French cinema) featuring classics by Agnes Varda, Eric Rohmer, Francois Truffaut, Godard and Jacques Demy, among others.
