'Frozen' Sequel Gets New 2019 Release Date

Elsa's hair

Even though Disney's animators had wrestled with braids for 2011's Tangled, the hair for Elsa was vastly more complicated: While Rapunzel carried 27,000 extralong strands on her head, the Frozen team found themselves dealing with upward of 400,000 CG threads -- a feat that required the invention of a new program, called Tonic, to execute.

The follow-up to 2013's 'Frozen' will slide into theaters a week earlier.

The release date for Frozen 2 from Walt Disney Animation Studios has shifted.

The sequel to 2013's Frozen, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide, will now come out a week earlier, on Nov. 22, 2019, having moved from an initial launch scheduled for Nov. 29 next year.

Frozen starred Kristen Bell, who voiced Anna, and Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf.

The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures release follows the original Frozen movie also taking home Oscars for best animated feature and best original song for "Let It Go."
