FtvS shutters U.K. production arm

Fox Television Studios continues to trim operations under new president Emiliano Calemzuk, closing its U.K. production unit.

The division has existed since the 2004 acquisition of U.K.-based Scream Films, which was rebranded as Fox TV Studios-U.K. in 2006. It focused mostly on producing unscripted shows, including a local version of Fox's "Unanimous" for Channel Four.

"The move comes as part of the studio's overall examination of its international strategy and operations," FtvS said Friday. "FtvS will continue to develop and produce high-quality scripted and alternative programming for the U.S. and international marketplaces through production and co-production with broadcasters around the world."

FtvS' statement indicates a change in direction for the company internationally from owning local production facilities to partnering with existing local production entities and broadcasters.

FtvS' other international outposts in Australia, New Zealand, France and India are not affected by the U.K. closing and expected to continue operations.
