'Full Monty' director making 'What the Puck'

Peter Cattaneo directing from Geoff Deane's screenplay

BERLIN -- Peter Cattaneo, the director of "The Full Monty," has signed up to direct feel-good comedy "What the Puck," from a screenplay by Geoff Deane, backers said Thursday.

Buyers of bawdy British humor arriving in Berlin for the start of the European Film Market will likely be pleased with the pairing of Cattaneo and Deane, the latter having penned "Kinky Boots."

Billed as a comedy inspired by the true story of a father and son's journey to mend their broken hearts after struggling with the pain of a messy divorce. It's a newfound interest in ice hockey that transforms the father and son relationship.

Backed by Ealing Studios and sold by the production and financier's international sales arm, "Puck" is scheduled for a summer shoot in the U.K. and Canada.

Ealing Studios International also said it has sold its John Landis-directed comedy "Burke and Hare" to a raft of territories ahead of the EFM including Entertainment for the U.K., Transmission for Australia and New Zealand, and Maple Pictures in Canada.
