FX orders more 'Sons of Anarchy'

Creator Kurt Sutter to continue running the drama series

FX's hit drama "Sons of Anarchy" will return in September.

As expected, FX has ordered a 13-episode third season of the series, which ranks as the highest-rated basic cable drama this year. Also, creator Kurt Sutter has signed a two-year deal to continue as showrunner, with all of the series' regulars returning as well.

The announcement was timed to coincide with news of the "Sons of Anarchy" finale ratings, which matched the show's all-time high in total viewers. The finale drew 4.3 million viewers Tuesday night and earned a 2.3 rating in the adult demo.

"The success of' Sons of Anarchy' is very gratifying and the show has become a bona-fide hit," FX president-general manager John Landgraf said. "The critics have recognized 'Sons' as one the best series on television, and the show has earned its place alongside FX's great drama series."
