Garofalo on case for CBS pilot

Janeane Garofalo has been tapped to star in Barry Schindel's untitled drama pilot for CBS.

The project, from CBS Paramount Network TV and studio-based Scott Free Prods., follows the lives, relationships, cases and careers of a team of public defenders.

Garofalo will play the quirky, sassy head of the public defender's office who bears the scars of having made it in what is essentially a man's world.

Schindel penned the project -- a redeveloped version of "Law Dogs," his 2003 pilot for NBC --and is executive producing with Scott Free's Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and David Zucker.

Garofalo's recent credits include NBC's "The West Wing," Comedy Central's animated series "Freak Show" and the animated feature "The Wild." She next will appear in the feature "Southland Tales."

Garofalo is repaid by CAA and Generate.
