Gates will give History Makers keynote

Topic will be Lincoln, Obama, race and the presidency

TORONTO -- Harvard professor and broadcaster Henry Louis Gates Jr. will provide the opening keynote address at the History Makers 2009 conference in New York, it was announced Monday.

Gates' speech to the TV producers' conference, titled "Lincoln, Obama, Race and the Presidency," will coincide with his upcoming book and PBS special to mark the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth.

History Makers 2009, organized by Toronto-based Achilles Media, is set to run Jan. 29-31.
