Gaumont goes digital with XDC

PARIS -- Gallic distributor-exhibitor Gaumont will screen all of its upcoming feature films in digital format in theaters equipped with digital projection systems, XDC International announced Friday. Gaumont is the first French producer and distributor to make such a move to digital.

XDC provides for the financing and installation of digital cinema equipment as well as the processing of digital cinema content for distributors and exhibitors. The company already has set up more than 260 digital installations in Europe and plans to continue expanding under its subsidiary, XDC France, which offers specialized services to Gallic theaters, screening rooms, post-production labs and festivals.

XDC will prepare all of Gaumont's future films in digital format beginning with "Le Lievre de Vatanen," "Pars Vite et Reviens Tard," "Big City," "La Faute a Fidel," "Chrysalis" and "Trois Amis."

"At XDC, we work each day to make digital cinema a concrete, reliable and advantageous offer for distributors and exhibitors," XDC general manager Bernard Collard said in a statement. "That is why we are so pleased that Gaumont has chosen XDC to encode its digital source masters, as well as encrypting and duplicating its digital copies."
