The Jackie Chan of the upcoming epic 1911 is not happy-go-lucky Chan seen in the Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon franchises.
The Hong Kong actor takes a serious turn in the film, about the Xinhai Revolution that led to the founding of the Republic of China.
Winston Chao plays Sun Yat-sen, the founder of modern China, while Chan portrays a high-ranking officer in his army.
Chan co-directed the movie with Zhang Li, the cinematographer of Red Cliff; Chan and JJ Prods. also produced the drama with the Shanghai Film Group.
The film’s wordless first trailer is straightforward with battle scenes and explosions taking up most of the action. The tagline show between cuts is: “When an empire is torn between power and corruption a revolution begins.”
Well Go USA has North American rights to film and aims to give it a day-and-date release in the U.S. and China.
