Twitter revealed its biggest moments of 2016, summing up a year that saw the Rio Olympics, the U.S. presidential election and Pokemon Go dominating the social media conversation.
The social network launched the #ThisHappened hashtag to announce the top trends early Tuesday morning.
Topping the list of Twitter’s global trending topics was Rio2016, followed by Election2016 and then PokemonGo. #Oscars (No. 5), Brexit (No. 6), BlackLivesMatter (No. 7) and #Trump (No. 8) also made the list, with GameofThrones, thanks to Jon Snow mania, placing in the final slot at No. 10.
While #Trump made the top trends, a Hillary Clinton tweet ranked as one of the three most shared tweets in global rankings (placing third to Harry Styles and a Spanish gamer).
The tweet came during the former Democratic presidential nominee’s concession speech Nov. 9, quoting Clinton’s message to the young girls watching: “To all the little girls watching…never doubt that you are valuable and powerful & deserving of every chance & opportunity in the world.”
