On Monday night, The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann and his award-winning costume-designer wife, Catherine Martin, celebrated with Gisele Bundchen and Karl Lagerfeld for the soon-to-be released video of Bundchen’s Chanel No.5 campaign. While the fashionable crowd was busy taking selfies or posing with Chanel bags as hats, we took notice of something rarely spotted at style soirees — bagels, or in this case, a bagel bag (with faux cream cheese!).
The lucky owner of the carb-filled purse (at least, for that night) was India Menuez, a New York artist, who appeared to enjoy her delicious-looking accessory without suffering from a food coma. It has since been revealed that fellow NY-based artist Chloe Wise designed the piece. She wrote on Twitter: “My bagel sculpture : Bagel no.5. Urethane and oil paint with found hardware. Not by @chanel but stoked I fooled yall.”
Anyway, in the spirit of food-inspired handbags, we’ve rounded up our favorite bags to bring to our next brunch.
Presented at the Anya Hindmarch‘s fall 2014 runway show during London Fashion Week, this Tony the Tiger structured handbag ($2,295) reminds us of childhood mornings spent enjoying a bowl of Frosted Flakes cereal for breakfast. Lucky for us, this one’s sugar free. (Photo: Jonathan Short/Invision/AP)
Caviar for breakfast? Why, of course, especially if it’s Parisian caviar by way of British-French designer Olympia Le Tan‘s sea blue cross body round bag ($595), reminiscent of a classic caviar tin. (Photo via Opening Ceremony)
Forget making the trip to IHOP. We’re getting our pancake fix with this hotcake handbag ($77.50) from Candies. Butter and maple syrup included? Yum. (Photo via Candies)
As Homer Simpson put it best, “Mmm, donuts.” This sweet treat designed by Kate Spade is the perfect coin purse ($58) to carry to brunch or to bring along for a quick stop at the Krispy Kreme drive-thru. (Photo via Kate Spade)
