The 14th River to River Florence Indian Film Festival will honor actor Irrfan Khan, featuring the first European retrospective of his films. The actor got his start in Bollywood and has over 115 credits in film and television. He has found international success in roles in Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Khan’s next big screen role will be in Jurassic World alongside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. The Jurassic Park sequel comes out next summer.
The festival will also screen Michael Winterbottom’s A Mighty Heart, Mira Nair’s The Namesake, and Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Paan Singh Tomar. The program will also include Khan’s seven episodes from the third season of HBO’s In Treatment. He’ll meet with audiences in Florence on Dec. 7.
River to River is Italy’s only major film festival dedicated to Indian cinema. It will feature 40 films from Dec. 6 to 12 in Florence before traveling for two days to Rome on Dec. 13 and 14. A “best of” edition will also screen in Milan in February.
The festival is part of Florence’s annual cinema celebration 50 Days of International Cinema. Other festivals in the series include France Odeon, Florence Queer Festival, Balkan Florence Express, International Festival of Women and Film, Festival dei Popoli, featuring international documentaries, and Lo Schermo dell’Arte, where art meets film.
