“Alan Cumming is a master artist, actor, author and entertainer who for the last 30 years has been continually taking his craft to new heights. We are proud to have this multi-talented performer as our host this year,” Bruce L. Paisner, president & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said Monday in a statement.
“As someone who believes it is important to reach out and embrace different cultures and their stories, and who revels in the diversity and richness of working all over the world, I couldn’t be happier to join the celebration of international excellence that is the International Emmys,” said Cumming.
The International Emmys honor excellence in television programming produced outside the U.S. This year’s event will include two special awards: Uber-producer Shonda Rhimes will receive the 2016 International Emmy Founders Award, and Maria Rorbye Ronn, CEO of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation and one of the driving forces behind the global Nordic Noir boom, will receive the 2016 International Emmy Directorate Award.
