Alexander McQueen Designer Sarah Burton Keen to Make Kate Middleton’s Maternity Wear

Sarah Burton, who took over the creative director position at Alexander McQueen when he died in 2010, would love to design maternity outfits for the the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge.

And she certainly has the credentials to do so. Last week, Burton was awarded the Order of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace  for her contributions to the British Fashion industry. Kate Middleton‘s royal father-in-law Prince Charles presented the award to Burton.

And when she was asked if she would be designing for expectant Middleton, Burton demurely replied, “I hope I will be.”

It would certainly make sense that she would have some hand in the wardrobe for the next nine months — and then some. Plus Burton is also expecting. Twins!

The biggest clue is that Burton has already designed Kate Middleton’s spectacular wedding gown. She’s seen in the photo above helping adjust the train at the cathedral, moments before Kate walked down the aisle.

So clearly, Burton is very hands-on. And she also created Kate’s lovely lavender evening gown worn during her Royal Tour, as well as her Diamond Jubilee showstopper, a red pleated frock.

But the competition will be fierce. No doubt Kate will spread the wealth among several British designers with whom she enjoys working.

And perhaps some new ones too. And then there’s the all-important baby clothes and pram. So many style decisons!
