Stop everything: H&M’s next designer collaboration has been revealed — and this time around, it’s with super cool New York-based designer Alexander Wang.
The designer announced the major news, using Instagram — his first-ever post on the @alexanderwangny account — on Saturday at midnight EST with a video. The 15-second clip begins with field lights shining on a countdown clock. When the ticker ends, “WANG x H&M” appears on the digital board with the timestamp 11:06, which likely means the collection will hit stores Nov. 6. Mark those calendars, stat.
Wang, who has served as creative director of Balenciaga since 2012, will follow after designers Isabel Marant and Maison Martin Margiela, who have collaborated with the Swedish retailer on past collections. This marks Wang’s first major collaboration.
Although somewhat surprising for Wang to sneakily announce the news on Saturday night, it fits with his weekend agenda. How so? Well, it just so happens that the designer is throwing a secret joint soiree with H&M that’s taking place right next to H&M’s annual invite-only bash at Coachella. What a way to celebrate the announcement.
After all, the designer has always been one to think outside the box, as he showed at his most recent New York Fashion Week runway show in Brooklyn.
