PFW Beauty: How to Get Alexis Mabille’s Marisa Berenson-Inspired Eyes

Alexis Mabille had melon on the mind this season. If the bright pink and green combinations weren’t enough to give it away, the show notes certainly were — he left a recipe for the “Sandia Smash” watermelon and tequila cocktail on every seat with directions for makers to “shake, shake, shake!”

The collection — think fuchsia jumpsuits, coral jackets and turquoise high-waisted trousers — was inspired by the ‘70s actress and style idol Marisa Berenson, and makeup artist Lloyd Simmonds created a modern Studio 54-meets-Starburst eye for the show.

“Instead of doing the cliche ‘70s thing with tons of mascara and stacked lashes, we did no mascara and no lashes ,” he told Pret-a-Reporter, instead focusing on a light lid.

With MAC Paint Sticks in Hi Def Cyan and Primary Yellow ($22 each), he created a bright eye. “They are creme colors so they look transparent and fresh, not opaque,” Simmonds explained.

To get the look, start with the bright blue at the lash line and blend, adding the yellow near the crease and continue to blend upward. The result is subtle yet bold.

“It’s all about blending, but it’s super-easy because it’s a creme product and it really lives well on the skin,” he said. “It has that ‘70s vibe but isn’t as heavy.”

Skin was kept bright with MAC’s Cream Color Base products ($22), with the Pearl shade used as a highlight and topped with the tropical Virgin Isle on cheeks.

Instead of the traditional bright pink glossy lip that usually accompanies the look, Simmonds used lip balm topped with the MAC Cream Color Base in Shell.

“There’s no lipstick, just a really beautiful moist lip with a tiny bit of Pearl just to give it that fresh look that’s not overdone,” he said. Smashing.

Alexis Mabille’s Sandia Smash

3 watermelon chunks
2 watermelon cubes on a brochette
Ice
¾ ounce fresh lime juice
¼ ounce agave nectar
½ ounce elderflower liqueur
2 ounces blanco tequila

In a cocktail shaker muddle watermelon chunks. Add ice, lime juice, agave nectar, elderflower liqueur and blanco tequila. Shake, shake, shake! Strain into ice-filled glass. Garnish with watermelon brochette.
