The Disaster Artist is now even more of a family affair for brothers James and Dave Franco.
Alison Brie, who is Dave Franco’s fiancee, is in negotiations to join the growing cast of New Line’s making-of movie about the 2003 drama The Room, widely considered one of the worst pics of all time.
James Franco is directing the movie as well as starring in it with Dave and Seth Rogen. The film began shooting in Los Angeles this week.
James Franco will portray the eccentric Tommy Wiseau, helmer and star of The Room, which has developed a strong cult following, including among celebrities who loved it in a “so bad, it’s good” way.
Wiseau had no filmmaking experience when he set out to write, direct and produce the pic, which centers on a man named Johnny whose fiancee, Lisa, cheats on him with his best friend, Mark.
Dave Franco will portray Greg Sestero, the actor who played Mark in The Room. Brie will play his onscreen girlfriend.
The call sheet also includes Zac Efron, Josh Hutcherson and Kate Upton, as well as Ari Graynor, Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Buress and Andrew Santino.
Brie, who is repped by WME and Sloan, Offer, next stars in New Line’s ensemble comedy How to Be Single and recently completed production on Julian Fellowes miniseries Doctor Thorne and The Headhunter’s Calling opposite Gerard Butler.
