Having attended many awards gatherings in the past few months, Allison Janney is the riding the wave of I, Tonya’s critical success all the way to the Academy Awards. And at her latest appearance, The Hollywood Reporter’s sixth annual Nominees Night, the actress opened up about her first career Oscar nomination for her supporting role of LaVona Golden in the pic.
“This is very special to be included in this part of the conversation in my career,” Janney explained. “I thought somehow it just alluded me and I’ve been involved with a lot of films where I’ve been in best ensemble, and that’s been special, but to have this individual recognition is truly an honor. And obviously having one of my best friends write this role specifically to put me in this category is almost too good to be true.”
Along with Janney, I, Tonya star Margot Robbie also received a best actress Oscar nomination as Tonya Harding. And while the two didn’t get a chance to bond during filming, Janney explained what she’s grown to love about her fellow actress.
“What I’ve grown to love and be surprised by about her is what a great businesswoman she is. When we tried to sell the movie in Toronto, she enjoyed the negotiation part,” she said. “I’m so jealous of her. She has a head for business, an actor’s soul and the most beautiful body. Her personage is so unbelievably beautiful. She’s remarkable.”
