Amanda Seyfried always looks lovely on the red carpet, but for Sunday’s Tony Awards, she channeled the epitome of elegance: Grace Kelly. Hairstylist Renato Campora says he looked to the Old Hollywood actress for inspiration when coming up with the modern blonde’s “timeless, classic” hairdo.

“Amanda’s Oscar de la Renta off-the-shoulder dress was so stunning and I wanted to make sure her hair was the perfect accessory and showed off the dress and her amazing shoulders,” he tells Pret-a-Reporter. “I knew immediately that I wanted to do an updo on her.” The stylist, who also works with Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain and Selena Gomez, went with a sleek chignon bun and slicked hair to accentuate all of the above.
To create the look, he first applied Matrix Biolage Blow-In-Control Shape Memory Cream ($17) to Seyfried’s damp hair to add body and conditioning. Then he added a light spray of Matrix StyleLink Turbo Dryer Blow Dry Spray ($18) to take frizz and expedite blow-drying, which he did until her hair was 80 percent dry.

Next, Campora used “a round brush to loosely curl the hair, then flat ironed the top of the hair to create a sleek look for the chignon.” He added Matrix StyleLink Super Fixer Strong Hold Gel ($18) at the ends for a firm hold, and then pulled her hair back and fastened it with a hair band at the base of the neck, using Matrix StyleLink Texture Builder Messy Finish Spray ($18) in the ponytail for more texture.
Finally, he wrapped her hair into a bun, twisting each section piece by piece for added dimension. After securing with pins, he finished the look with hairspray. Voila, it’s Kelly reincarnated.
