Amazon has expanded its licensing agreement with MGM, adding more movies and History Channel’s Vikings series to its Prime Instant Video service.
The movies added to Prime Instant Video include Fargo, Annie Hall, Hotel Rwanda, Platoon and Hoosiers. Vikings‘ availability to U.S. customers of Amazon’s streaming service comes after the series was made available to customers in the U.K. and Germany through Amazon’s European subscription service LoveFilm.

“We’re excited that Prime Instant Video is now the video subscription home of Vikings, a series we know our customers love in both the U.S. and abroad,” Brad Beale, Amazon’s director of digital video content acquisition, said in a statement. “Adding a collection of great MGM films, along with Vikings, is an example of how we’re continuously working to offer our Prime members some of the best content available anywhere.”
MGM’s president of domestic television distribution John Bryan added: “MGM is thrilled to further our relationship with Amazon by offering the epic series Vikings as well as titles from MGM’s library to Amazon Prime members. We are always looking for opportunities to bring our content to new audiences in innovative ways, which is exactly what this partnership delivers.”
As it continues to compete with Netflix, Amazon has recently struck content deals with Viacom and CBS.
