Amazon has reached a multiyear deal to serve as the exclusive premium subscription home for indie studio A24’s movies.
The site’s Prime Instant Video subscribers will be able to watch current and future A24 titles — including Spring Breakers, The Spectacular Now, the upcoming The Rover, starring Robert Pattinson, and Under the Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson — after those films are released on DVD and Blu-ray.

“We are always looking for new ways to bring our Prime Instant Video customers, unique, exclusive movies and TV that we think they will love,” Amazon director of digital video content acquisition Brad Beale said in a statement. “As always, we monitor DVD and digital sales very closely, and A24 movies such as Spring Breakers and The Bling Ring are exceptionally popular among our customers. This new deal with A24 allows us to offer those same titles to our Prime Instant Video customers soon after they are released on DVD and Blu-ray and at no additional cost.”
A24’s Matthew Bires added: “As an independent film distributor, our relationship with Amazon Prime Instant Video marks the next generation in output deals. It speaks to the larger shift in customers’ consumption habits. Not only can we share our content with an engaged audience, we have access to better analytics to monitor the films’ reach. Amazon is an extremely innovative and entrepreneurial company, and the scope and dynamism of the platform is incredibly exciting for our films.”

The A24 deal covers four previously released films: Spring Breakers, The Spectacular Now, Sofia Coppola‘s The Bling Ring and Ginger & Rosa, starring Elle Fanning and Annette Bening. The agreement will also cover Under the Skin and The Rover.
The deal is the latest salvo in an ongoing battle between Netflix and Amazon to attract and retain subscribers by inking exclusive deals with content providers. This summer, Netflix reached an exclusive pact with The Weinstein Co.
