LONDON – CBS Corp.’s CBS Studios International has struck a licensing deal with Amazon’s LoveFilm that will bring the hit series Under the Dome to the streaming video service in the U.K.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed, but the partners said LoveFilm will be the exclusive subscription VOD home of the series in Britain, meaning competitor Netflix won’t get to stream it here.
The drama will be available to LoveFilm users beginning in June 2014.
Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King and produced by Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Television, Under the Dome, which just ended its U.S. run, is about a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by a big transparent dome.
In the U.S., the show has been the most-watched series of the summer across broadcast and cable networks, averaging 14.85 million viewers, according to CBS.
“This agreement illustrates the growing opportunities around the world to create additive and complementary ways to monetize our content,” said Armando Nunez, president and CEO of the CBS Global Distribution Group. “We think this event series with addictive, serialized storytelling will have great appeal to subscribers of LoveFilm’s terrific service.”
Chris Bird, director of content strategy at LoveFilm, said, “We are absolutely thrilled to add such a quality show with so much pedigree to our already extensive collection of great TV series. Under the Dome is the latest in a line of new and exciting shows that can be found on our streaming service.”
CBS and Amazon previously struck a content licensing deal for Under the Dome in the U.S. on Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service, which streams the episodes after their broadcast on the CBS network.
