Amy Adams wore a $3,275 Valentino purse to Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s funeral on Friday, which was blasted to journalists and fashion editors via one very poorly executed press release. The brand has since come under heavy fire for the move, with Mona Swanson, the Italian label’s communications head, apologizing for not only releasing the photo of Adams carrying the label’s bag, but also for involving the American Hustle star in the mess.
Now Adams’ camp is speaking out too, and they want to make sure it’s known that the Oscar-nominated starlet has nothing to do with Valentino in any formal way.

“The suggestion she would use this moment to participate in a promotion is truly appalling,” said Adams’ reps, according to E! News.
Valentino said as much when they sent their apology on Friday. “We were not aware the photograph was taken while she was attending the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was an innocent mistake and we apologize to Ms. Adams who was not aware, or a part of, our PR efforts.” Swanson told the AP.
Though the apology has come and gone, the public still seems disturbed by the mistake (“Wow cold, ice cold business” tweeted @Tapio_Rosengren to @pretareporter on Sunday night).
It’s a safe bet that Adams will likely be taking a break from the brand during her many red carpet appearances, including the Oscars on March 2.
THR has reached out to Adams for additional comment, and her reps have nothing to add at this time.
