Amy Poehler Named Hasty Pudding’s Woman of the Year

Talk about getting the pudding.

In her book, Yes Please, Amy Poehler likens the experience of being nominated for an award as wanting the pudding. Well, the 2015 Golden Globes co-host may not have been nominated for one of those awards this year, but she’ll get a different kind of pudding when she accepts Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ Woman of the Year Award this January.

Poehler, who grew up outside of Boston, was named the 2015 female honoree. Past recipients of the honor, bestowed annually on performers who have made lasting and impressive contributions to the world of entertainment, include Meryl Streep, Katharine Hepburn, Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Elizabeth Taylor, Anne Hathaway, Claire Danes, Marion Cotillard and last year’s recipient, Helen Mirren.

The Parks and Recreation star will be present at this year’s Woman of the Year festivities, which begin at 4 p.m. on Jan. 29, when Poehler will lead a parade through the streets of Cambridge. Afterward, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the oldest theatrical organization in the United States, will host a celebratory roast for the SNL alum, who will be presented with her Pudding Pot at Farkas Hall, the Hasty Pudding’s home on Harvard Square.

“We are extremely excited to announce Amy Poehler as our 2015 Woman of the Year. She is an accomplished performer, incredible comedian, and an inspiration to everyone in the Hasty Pudding.” Hasty Pudding Theatricals president Jason Hellerstein said in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming Ms. Poehler and celebrating and honoring her achievements in a truly unique and memorable way.”

In addition to starring in Parks and Recreation, the final season of which premieres Tuesday, Jan. 13, on NBC, Poehler executive produces Comedy Central’s Broad City and is set to star with Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph in Universal’s upcoming comedy Sisters (formerly called The Nest) and lends her voice to Pixar’s upcoming movie Inside Out. While Poehler, who won the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy series last year, isn’t up for that award this year, she is up for the best actress in a comedy series SAG Award.

A male Hasty Pudding honoree will be named at a later date and will be honored on Feb. 6, 2015. Last year’s Man of the Year was Oscar host Neil Patrick Harris.
