IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to Joe Chappelle’s An Acceptable Loss, starring Tika Sumpter and Jamie Lee Curtis. The distributor plans to release the film theatrically in January.
Formerly titled The Pages, the pic, which was shot in Chicago, will have its world premiere Saturday at the Chicago International Film Festival.
In the political thriller, which Chappelle also wrote, Sumpter plays a former top U.S. security advisor who confronts the ethical implications of past decisions she made while working for a tough politician, played by Curtis. An Acceptable Loss also stars Ben Tavassoli and Jeff Hephner.
Collen Griffen of CorradoMooncoin produced the film, which was executive produced by Candy Straight and Laura K. Lewis.
The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, executive vp acquisitions and productions at IFC Films/Sundance Selects, and by CAA on behalf of the filmmakers. International sales are being handled by 13 Films.
