Hayes will need to scale back on some of those day-to-day producer duties now that he's back onscreen in his first regular series role since his Emmy-winning turn on Will & Grace. The decision to return has been something he and Milliner have been mulling for a while but hadn't made a priority until last year. "We kept waiting for material to come to us, and then the phone would ring [with other business]," says Hayes, who admits he initially was hesitant to do another sitcom.

The irreverent comedy that delivers a revised version of the Ten Commandments will play at the Ahmanson Theatre from Jan. 30 through March 13, 2016, producer Jeffrey Finn and Center Theatre Group announced. The limited six-week engagement will star Sean Hayes as God.
The show will then play a three-week engagement at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco beginning March 29.
The hit 90-minute play — penned by former Daily Show head writer David Javerbaum and directed by Joe Mantello — switches coasts after making its Broadway debut at the notoriously unholy Studio 54 earlier this summer. It originally starred Jim Parsons as God, and also featured Christopher Fitzgerald and Tim Kazurinsky as archangels.

The production kicked off the 2015-16 Broadway season, and was also the first to recoup its capitalization. It garnered favorable reviews (The Hollywood Reporter‘s Frank Scheck called it “both outrageously irreverent and deeply thoughtful in its exploration of religious issues”) and grossed $11 million in its 12-week New York run.
“I’m very excited about the production,” Javerbaum told THR of the show’s L.A. run. “I’ve worked with Sean before; I know he is a great comic actor and all-around stage animal.”
