The Art Directors Guild Awards announced its 17th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards at the Beverly Hilton on Feb. 2.
Anna Karenina won in the most highly contested category of best production design in a period film. It competed against Argo, Django Unchained, Les Miserables and Lincoln. Upon accepting the honor, Sarah Greenwood thanked director Joe Wright for his “mad visions he keeps getting me to help him along with” as she has collaborated with the helmer since 2005’s Pride & Prejudice.
Life of Pi won in the fantasy film category against fellow nominees Cloud Atlas, Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
The wins give both Anna Karenina and Life of Pi an edge in the Oscar race for best production design against The Hobbit, Les Miserables and Lincoln.
The contemporary film category went to Skyfall, while the entire Bond franchise was honored with the Cinematic Imagery Award. Sir Ken Adam, Allan Cameron, Peter Lamont and Dennis Gassner (who accepted the award for Skyfall) were among the honorees.
