Trade association NARM (National Association of Recording Merchandisers) announced on Wednesday that artist and activist Annie Lennox will be honored at the conclusion of the 2011 NARM Convention, to be held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on May 12.
The Grammy- and Oscar-winning singer will be presented with the Harry Chapin Memorial Humanitarian Award in recognition of her work on behalf of HIV/AIDS awareness and other health, human rights and environmental causes.
Said NARM President Jim Donio in a statement: “Annie Lennox truly exemplifies the powerful spirit of the Harry Chapin Memorial Award, as she is an outstanding composer and singer who has also dedicated herself to making a meaningful impact on global issues. She continues to amaze us all with both her musical gifts and her determination to bring positive change to the world.”
The award was established 30 years ago to celebrate Chapin’s philanthropic efforts. Previous recipients include Melissa Etheridge, Norman Lear, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Michael Jackson and organizations such as Rock the Vote and Live Aid.
