The Elgort name might be more known to the younger generation now because of Ansel’s (the youngest of the Elgort clan) starring role in The Fault In Our Stars, opposite Shailene Woodley. But dad Arthur Elgort is an established and world-famous fashion photographer in his own right, shooting models like Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista for glossies like Vogue since the ‘70s.
Now daughter Sophie Elgort (Ansel’s older sister) is following in his footsteps with her own career behind the camera, which has thus far seen her shoot for brands including Topshop, Theory and Alice + Olivia. Taking it one step further, WWD announced in a profile that she is set to launch her own lifestyle website in the coming weeks.
It’s no real surprise she and her brothers ended up in creative professions (brother Warren is a filmmaker). Taking portraits in the morning before breakfast was de rigueur in the Elgort household. “I would make my friends dress up. And my brothers, I’d dress them up like girls,” Sophie tells WWD.

Aspiring photogs might be able to pick up some tips from her forthcoming site, which will include entries on the photographer’s travels and style as well as her answers to fans’ questions. “I was lucky enough to have access to the industry, so I could be on shoots and meet with different editors and talk to them about how things were going or ask my questions — a lot of people don’t have that opportunity,” she says.
“It’s really nice to give that to people who wouldn’t get it otherwise,” says Sophie. “You never know who’s going to be the next great person or designer or artist.” Like her baby brother, it’s safe to say Sophie is one to watch.
