Anthony Anderson is set to host the 2018 NAACP Image Awards, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and TV One announced Thursday. The Black-ish star will return for a fifth consecutive year to emcee the ceremony.
The awards show celebrates people of color in television, film, music and literature. Over 40 categories are included and will be voted on by NAACP members. The ceremony also features honorary awards including the President’s Award and the Chairman’s Award in recognition of accomplished individuals. During last year”s NAACP Image Awards, historian Lonnie Bunch took home the President’s Award while Harvard Law Professor Charles Ogletree Jr. was honored with the Chairman’s Award.
Anderson has been nominated for 12 NAACP Awards. He has won the outstanding actor in a comedy series award for his role as Dre on ABC’s Black-ish over the past three editions of the awards show.
Voting is currently open for the entertainer of the year award, which will be the only fan-voted honor featured on the show. The nominees include Chadwick Boseman, Ava DuVernay, Bruno Mars, Issa Rae, Chance the Rapper and Jay-Z. The winner will be announced during the live broadcast.
The full list of nominees will be announced during the week of Nov. 13.
The 49th NAACP Image Awards will air live Monday, Jan. 15, at 9 p.m. ET on TV One. The broadcast falls on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. In addition to the two-hour telecast, a live red-carpet program will air before the ceremony.
