Aretha Franklin underwent surgery this morning for an undisclosed health problem, and afterward called the procedure “highly successful.”
“God is still in control,” Franklin said in a statement to the Associated Press, via her spokesperson. “I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country.”
Earlier this year, the legendary 68-year-old singer known as the “Queen of Soul” canceled a pair of summer concert dates in New York after breaking her ribs upon taking a spill at her home.
Then, last month, two days after the multiple-Grammy winner was released from a Detroit hospital following a brief stay for unspecified reasons, her spokesperson announced that, upon the request of the singer’s doctor, Franklin has canceled all concert dates and personal appearances through May 2011.
Earlier today, the Detroit Free Press, quoting Franklin’s cousin, Brenda Corbett, reported that the soul legend was in good spirits and “doing really really good.”
