Best supporting Oscar nominee Berenice Bejo does not dress like Pepy Miller in The Artist.

She will not be wearing one of the ten thousand dollar heavily beaded Gucci flapper dresses from spring 2012 any time soon. “I prefer to see the person, and not the dress, first,” the actress told The Hollywood Reporter from her home in Paris. “Which is why the blue Gucci strapless gown I wore to the Golden Globes was so perfect. Michel loved the dress; for him, it was perfection. It was very simple, not trying to be a princess, and in that beautiful blue. How can I do better than that for the Oscars?”

This is a good question. Designers from all over the globe will be competing to dress her in highly elaborate couture creations. “I don’t want to overdo it,” says Bejo. “But more importantly, I want Michel to love the dress more than my Globes dress. This is a lot of pressure. I want to surprise him! He won’t see my Oscar dress till a few days before the show. It will be made for me, with many fittings – it’s like our wedding all over again!”
Bejo has been wearing shades of blue throughout awards season – like her sparkly blue dress at the Critic’s Choice Awards. She also let it slip that she’s friends with designer Elie Saab, who also spends time in Paris. We don’t think we’ll see her in more blue — not if she’s surprising Michel — but we might just see her in Elie Saab again. And he’s a good man for the job.
