Aurora theater shooter James Holmes was assaulted by fellow Colorado State Penitentiary (CSP) inmate Mark Daniels, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed with the Colorado Department of Corrections on Friday. Daniels will be charged with a code of penal discipline for internal assault on both Holmes and a correctional officer.
The incident between Daniels, 27, and Holmes, occurred at the CSP during an offender movement, according to the Denver Post. Daniels reportedly “lunged and took a few swings at Holmes in passing,” the Denver Post reports.
“Daniels and Holmes are both housed at CSP. The incident occurred during an offender movement,” Jacobson told the Denver Post.

The Denver Post acquired a letter about the assault from a writer claiming to be Daniels. The letter said the assault occurred on Oct. 8, but the Colorado Department of Corrections could not confirm the letter’s existence.
Holmes was sent to the CSP in September after being sentenced to life in prison for murdering 12 people and injuring 70 at a packed theater in Colorado during a showing of The Dark Knight Rises.
