Silver Linings Playbook was named best film at the Second Annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards. The offbeat romantic comedy also earned David O. Russell best directing honors and Jennifer Lawrence the award for best lead actress.
The two-year-old awards, given in five categories to international films chosen by the Australian Academy, were announced Saturday at a ceremony at Soho House in Los Angeles.
Daniel Day-Lewis scored the prize for best lead actor for his performance in Lincoln, and Quentin Tarantino won the AACTA International Award for Best Screenplay for Django Unchained.
Playbook’s best film award was presented to producers Donna Gigliotti, Bruce Cohen and Jonathan Gordon.
“The AACTA International Awards are Australia’s international stamp of screen success. They recognize our international counterparts, add an Australian voice to international Academy discussion, and celebrate our fellow Australians working internationally. I’m delighted that this, our second Awards season in the U.S. through the new Australian Academy, has continued the success of our launch a year ago, and I thank our American peers for embracing Australia’s AACTA Awards so enthusiastically,” AACTA president Geoffrey Rush said.
The AACTA International Awards are voted by a jury of Australian screen practitioners working in the U.S. and Australia from a cross section of crafts.
