Brace yourselves, Hollywood. The Aussies (and their fabulous designs) are coming.
Just in time for awards season, which kicks off this year with the Golden Globes on Jan. 10, a new VIP showroom featuring some of Australia’s hottest up-and-coming designers is landing in Los Angeles.
Between Jan. 5 and 7, collections from designers Alex Perry, Ellery and Christopher Esber will be shown at the Chateau Marmont for private stylist viewings, WWD reported Tuesday.
Sydney-based publicist Emma Van Haandel, who orchestrated the event, hopes that it will sway stylists into dressing their A-list clients in Australian labels for the awards season party circuit — not necessarily for the Oscars or Globes red carpets.
“We’re just really going to firstly establish and also just enhance the relationships we already have, because we’re already dealing with L.A.,” Van Haandel told the trade. “We’re sending product there a lot for talent and media. We’ve not met a lot of these people. They e-mail and say, ‘We want to wear Ellery to X’ and we can’t get it to them.”
In just the past few years, the Australian fashion scene has undergone significant growth, with designers like Zimmermann and Bassike not only opening storefronts in the U.S. but also garnering a Hollywood fan base.
