Authentic Talent and Literary Management has hired the three-man comedy team from Converge Media Group, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
Veteran comedy manager Rick Dorfman co-founded Converge in 2013 with client J.B. Smoove in part to explore digital and branding opportunities for his roster of comics. The company was acquired by former Maker Studios CEO Danny Zappin’s Zealot Networks last year. This July, Dorfman bought back Converge and is now bringing all of its business to Authentic. These comedians include Smoove as well as Chris Distefano (who has a pilot-production commitment at CBS for a semi-autobiographical family comedy with How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas), truTV’s Comedy Knockout host Damien Lemon, Guys We F*cked podcast co-host Krystyna Hutchinson, Artie Lange and Jim Breuer.
Joining Dorfman at Authentic are his associates Steve Wettenstein and James Cristiano, whose clients include Lynne Koplitz, Sam Morril, Dan Perlman, James Manzello, Brendan Fitzgibbons, Emma Willman, Jay Black, Bowen Yang and Tamer Kattan.
“I’m a lifelong comedy fan, and I’ve been a fan and friend of Rick’s for many years, so this is really a dream come true,” Authentic president Jon Rubinstein said in a statement. “Rick and his team bring a real entrepreneurial spirit to Authentic and will help us to expand our already growing production business while giving us endless opportunities to cross-pollinate and build in the television, branded and digital spaces. And we’re excited to support his comedians in the areas where we are already strong. Plus, they have a real commitment to making a difference in the world, which makes them a perfect fit for Authentic.”
The New York-based trio brings Authentic’s manager total to 24, evenly divided between its Brooklyn and Culver City offices. The management/production company’s rapid expansion includes the recent additions of Brantley Brown from Schachter/Brown, Peri Litvak from UTA and Shepard Smith from Luber Roklin.
