After seasons of kooky nail art and statement stilettos, the E! Clutch Cam at the Emmys heralded the evening bag as Hollywood’s hottest red-carpet accessory. “The clutch is more important than ever in one’s look — stylists are really having fun with it,” says Rauwolf designer Kristine Johannes. The New York-based newcomer brand’s metallic and emerald-cut mirrored bags were carried by Taylor Schilling, January Jones and Octavia Spencer at the Emmys. Edie Parker’s glitter and bespoke bags (designed by founder Brett Heyman) also are having a moment, with more than 160 red-carpet hits in the past year; Kate Hudson and Diane Kruger are fans. Makenzie Halen, VIP services for Edie Parker, predicts “structured, geometric shapes” for the upcoming awards season.
In contrast to bold bags, shoes are once again streamlined with shades of nude and black in simple strappy sandals and classic pumps. Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin remain the go-tos for stylists, with the addition of London-based label Kurt Geiger (about 130 pairs spotted on the red carpet) and Stuart Weitzman’s wildly popular Nudist sandal, which had multiple red-carpet walks this year (Megan Fox, Emmy Rossum and Zoe Saldana). Says Jimmy Choo’s creative director Sandra Choi: “There’s less sparkle; we will see more minimalistic sandals this year.”
